Is spot price for 90% .999? And other questions.
I had always assumed the spot price quoted on Kitco was for 1 oz of 999 fine silver, but recently on a website I read that it for a 1 oz of 900 fine. Can anyone tell me which it is?
Also, does anyone know if it's legal to melt down and refine older silver Canadian coins in Canada? I have so many silver dollars and would prefer to turn them into 999 bars, since the coins make a mess in the safe deposit box (as well as a hell of a lot of noise!) |

Spot is per troy ounce of .999

Spot price is per troy ounce of .995 or better fineness, based on delivery of 100-ounce bars specified by COMEX.
Therefore, anything traded that's less than 100-ounce bars should have some sort of premium to reflect the smaller, handier size. Most of us can't afford to buy 100-ounce bars. |

Try 5,000 ounces. But you should be able to get 90% at spot.
